The Alaska Mortgage Bankers Association (“AMBA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an Alaska nonprofit trade association organized under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through www.alaskamba.org (the “Site”), our email and text message programs, our events, and our membership and job board services; how we use it; who we share it with; and the choices you have.

This policy applies to members, prospective members, event attendees, sponsors, job board users, newsletter subscribers, and anyone who visits the Site or contacts us.

1. Our core commitment: we do not sell or share your personal information

We share personal information only in the limited circumstances described in Section 6 below — principally with vendors who process it on our behalf and under contract, and where required by law.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us directly

• Membership information. Name, company, job title, business and mailing address, business and mobile phone numbers, email address, NMLS number where applicable, membership class, and the names of designated representatives for company memberships.
• Event and education registrations. Attendee names, contact details, employer, dietary or accessibility accommodations you choose to disclose, and any guest information you provide.
• Payment information. Billing name, billing address, and the last four digits and expiration date of a payment card. We do not collect or store full payment card numbers or bank account numbers on our systems. Card and ACH data is collected and processed directly by our payment processor.
• Job board postings and applications. Employer contact information, posting content, and any information you include when responding to a posting.
• Communications. The content of emails, contact forms, text messages, committee correspondence, and survey or feedback responses you send us.
• Volunteer and committee information. Committee interest, board or committee service history, and biographical information you provide for publication.
• Sponsorship and exhibitor information. Company contact details, logos, and marketing materials you supply for display.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:

• IP address, general geographic location derived from it, browser type and version, operating system, and device type
• Pages viewed, links clicked, referring URL, and dates and times of access
• Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 7)

2.3 Information from other sources

• From your employer. If your company holds an AMBA membership, an authorized representative may provide your contact information to enroll you as a designated participant.
• From our service providers. Our website platform, email provider, and payment processor return transaction confirmations, delivery and engagement data, and similar operational information.
• Publicly available sources. We may supplement records with publicly available business contact information, such as NMLS registry data or company websites.

2.4 Information we do not collect

We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, credit reports, loan files, borrower financial data, or other consumer financial information through the Site. AMBA is a trade association. We are not a lender, broker, or servicer, and we do not take mortgage applications. Please do not send borrower or consumer loan information to us.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

• Process membership applications, dues, and renewals, and to maintain the membership roster required by our Bylaws
• Register you for luncheons, conferences, education programs, and other events, and to administer them
• Process payments and issue receipts and invoices
• Send the Monday Morning News, legislative and regulatory updates, event announcements, and other association communications
• Send text messages if you have opted in (see Section 5)
• Publish member company listings in our public member directory (see Section 4)
• Operate the job board and connect employers with candidates
• Respond to your questions and requests
• Administer committees, elections, board service, and volunteer activities
• Conduct member surveys and analyze participation to improve our programs
• Maintain financial, tax, and corporate records
• Protect the security and integrity of the Site, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms
• Comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests

Legal bases. Where required, we rely on your consent (for text messages and marketing email), the performance of our membership agreement with you, our legitimate interests in operating the association, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Member directory and public listings

Membership in AMBA is a public affiliation. As a normal part of association membership, we publish member company names, logos, business contact information, and business web addresses in our online member directory, event materials, and sponsor recognition.

• Directory listings are limited to business contact information.
• We do not publish personal mobile phone numbers or home addresses in the directory.
• Board members, officers, and committee chairs may be listed by name and title with business contact information.
• To correct or limit your directory listing, contact us at [email protected].

Information you choose to make public in a directory, a job posting, or an event program may be viewed, copied, and used by others. We cannot control that use.

5. Text messaging (SMS/MMS) program

5.1 What the program is

AMBA may send text messages to members and event registrants regarding event reminders and logistics, membership and dues notices, time-sensitive legislative alerts, and association announcements.

5.2 How you opt in

We send text messages only to people who have given prior express consent. You may opt in by:

• Checking the SMS consent box on a membership application, event registration, or web form
• Providing your mobile number and consent in writing to AMBA staff
• Texting a keyword to our number where one is published

Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of membership, event registration, or any purchase. Your consent is not shared with, or transferable to, any other party.

5.3 Message frequency, cost, and support

• Message frequency varies. You should expect a low volume of messages, generally no more than a few per month.
• Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier’s standard rates apply to messages you send and receive.
• To opt out, reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages.

• Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5.4 How we handle your mobile information

Your mobile number and your opt-in consent record are used only to deliver the messages described above and to maintain proof of consent as required by law. We share your mobile number with our SMS platform provider solely so that it can transmit our messages to you on our behalf, under a contract that prohibits any other use. We do not sell mobile numbers, we do not disclose them to affiliates or partners, and we do not use them for lead generation.

6. When we share information

We share personal information only as follows.

We do not share, sell, rent, or license your personal information — including your phone number and email address — to third parties or affiliates for their own marketing, promotional, or lead generation purposes. We do not accept payment in exchange for access to our member or subscriber contact data.

Sponsors and exhibitors do not receive attendee contact lists. Aggregate, de-identified information (for example, “42 attendees from 19 member companies”) may be shared and cannot be used to identify you.

7. Cookies and analytics

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure the Site, and measure how the Site is used.

• Strictly necessary cookies enable login, registration, and payment functions. The Site will not work properly without them.
• Analytics cookies help us understand which pages are useful. Analytics data is used in aggregate.

You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies. Doing so may prevent member login and event registration from working. We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because no common standard for them has been adopted. We do not use the Site for cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Third-party sites and platforms

The Site links to member company websites, legislative resources such as the Alaska State Legislature’s BASIS system, and our social media profiles. Those sites are governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. We are not responsible for their content or practices.

9. How long we keep information

• Membership records: for the duration of membership and for seven years afterward, for corporate, historical, and tax purposes
• Financial and payment records: seven years, consistent with IRS requirements for exempt organizations
• Event registrations: three years
• Email subscription and SMS consent records: for as long as you remain subscribed, and for at least four years after you opt out, to demonstrate that consent was properly obtained and honored
• Website analytics: generally 26 months or less
• Job postings: removed on expiration or at the employer’s request

We may retain information longer where required by law or where needed to resolve a dispute.

10. Security

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted transmission of data submitted through the Site, restricted access to member records, and use of a PCI-compliant payment processor so that card data does not reside on our systems.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach of personal information occurs, we will notify affected individuals as required by the Alaska Personal Information Protection Act (AS 45.48) and any other applicable law.

11. Your choices and rights

Everyone can:

• Unsubscribe from email using the link at the bottom of any message, or by emailing [email protected]. We will still send transactional messages such as dues invoices, registration confirmations, and required member notices.
• Opt out of text messages by replying STOP.
• Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, by contacting us. Some information must be retained to maintain the membership roster required by our Bylaws or to meet tax and legal obligations.
• Update your directory listing at any time.

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws — including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others — may have additional rights to know what personal information we hold, to obtain a copy of it, to correct or delete it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it for automated profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. To exercise any right, email [email protected] with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We will verify your identity by confirming information already in our records, and respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent, and you may appeal a denial by replying to our response.

12. Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for mortgage and real estate finance professionals. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Where information is processed

AMBA operates in the United States, and our service providers process information in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you consent to processing here, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our programs, vendors, or legal obligations change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change, and material changes will be announced by email or by a notice on the Site. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
